CAT 2017 Paper Analysis for Quantitative Aptitude

CAT 2017 was commenced on November 26, 2017. The participants and the experts have rated this year’s question paper moderate on the level of difficulty. The test consists of three sections viz. Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DI & LR) and Quantitative Ability (QA). Each section is of 1-hour duration and the examination is conducted in two slots i.e. from 10 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 5 pm. Here we will do the paper analysis for Quantitative Aptitude (QA) of CAT 2017.

The Quantitative Aptitude section of CAT 2017 was comparatively easier than the other two sections viz. Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DI & LR). The level of difficulty was similar to CAT 2015 and marginally easier than CAT 2016. Though it was easy but will definitely play the role of a differentiator this time.

CAT 2017 Exam Pattern

The pattern of CAT 2017 question paper of both slots was almost same but with differences in no. of MCQs and Non-MCQs and had the same level of difficulty. However, the cut-off of QA section in both slots is almost same. Have a look at the examination pattern of both slots here.

CAT 2017 QA Analysis

CAT 2017 is conducted in two slots and the QA section of slot 1 has total 34 questions with 23 MCQs and 11 non-MCQs, while in slot 2 there were 11 non-MCQs and 23 MCQs. Quantitative Aptitude requires direct application of formulas and have concept-based questions inhabited by Arithmetic and Algebra more than Geometry. Though in slot 1 there were maximum questions on arithmetic whereas in slot 2 the paper is populated with topics like Arithmetic, Geometry, Mensuration, Algebra, Series and Sequence, Number Systems, etc.

According to the participants and experts, the Quantitative Aptitude section of CAT 2017 was less time consuming and easily attempted with the basic knowledge of Mathematics of Class 10th level. Test-takers shared their view and found CAT 2017 relatively easier than last year. Participants rated CAT 2017 paper easy to moderate.
